THIS WEEK’S HIGHLIGHT

You need to check out April Varner. She’s a jazz vocalist with insane skills. April has figured out what connects on Instagram and just hit 100K followers (Congrats, April!). Her business? She is a touring musician and that means trying to raise your profile with not just fans to drive streaming numbers and fill seats, but you need to catch the attention of venue owners and bookers. A jazz vocalist with 100K is not something that comes across their desk every day. She also has an email list and is strong and direct with her messaging. Bravo, April. https://www.instagram.com/reel/DYsDXdlxWSf/
ON MY MIND THIS WEEK…
This is probably going to be the hardest one of these I ever write. Why? Because it's the first one and inertia is a bitch.
Inertia: The resistance to change in direction or speed. When you’re not moving, that resistance makes it feel impossible to start. This is literally how the world works (Thanks, Sir Issac Newton!). Start moving and you have momentum and now that same inertia works FOR you. “A body at rest tends to stay at rest; a body in motion tends to stay in motion.”
I've found every excuse not to write this for the last two weeks. I even did other stuff I’ve been putting off. I stalled because I didn't know where to start and it turns out that doesn’t matter. The only thing that matters is starting. So much so that here it is. Finished! The key was deciding it’s more important to get it done than to get it perfect. By deciding it’s okay if it sucks, it doesn’t. Hopefully.
BIG IDEA: Start. Even if you don’t know where. Even if it's bad. You can always fix it, tweak it, redo it. Crazy enough, it's easier to throw it out and write the whole thing a second time than it was to even start the first time. So just start. Do it today. You won’t regret it.

I totally agree with Ali Abdaal and his take on “lifestyle businesses” in this YouTube video, “The Best Type of Business for Freedom.”
